Come to one of the most attractive destinations in the world with its beautiful unspoilt islands ~ a must for nature lovers and divers alike The Mergui (Myeik) Archipelago is a vast area with more than 800 pristine islands dotted throughout the Andaman Sea between Myeik (Mergui) and Kawthoung (Victoria Point). The area is famous for its diving, snorkelling, sea-kayaking and fishing activities ~ lots of the seafood on the tables of Asia come from the Andaman Sea. There are few places in the world like the islands of the Andaman Sea many of which are uninhabited. The local population comprises the Salone (Sea Gypsies), Myanmar and Pashu.
The Salone people (or Moken) are called the Sea Gypsies of the Andaman Sea. They are descendants of the northern branch of the Austronesian people and have a very distinctive and unique culture. Except for the rainy season they live on their boats travelling around the archipelago and doing what they know best - fishing. When the rains come they take to the land and do some cultivation but eagerly await the day the rains stop so they can go sailing again!! Being excellent divers and swimmers their main source of income is diving for pearls and sea creatures and collecting shells ~ what a nice life!!
Myanmar Andaman Resort is located on Fork Island (Macleod Island) ~ the resort was designed for those who love the sun, sand and sea and Eco-Tourism. To conserve nature and preserve the island's natural beauty evironmetally-friendly products were used when constructing the resort. It has not been designed as a mass tourist destination as that would threaten the island's natural beauty. Go diving, snorkelling, bird watching and trekking ~ or just relax on the white beaches.
